We Know How to Make Learning Fun For Kids
We know how to make Learning Fun:
The children love that their parents/family are welcome!
We have a wonderful home-school connection!
In the summer there is an opportunity for home visits, too!
Buttonwoods School for Young Children’s Faith Mission
Buttonwoods School is a non-profit Christian school, sponsored by Buttonwoods Bible Chapel, which is a Christian Brethren Church. The program and staff have a core set of values which are based on principles of the Bible. These principles are the bases for all interaction with children and families. The character of God and the character of a Christian is central to our identity. Our Christian philosophy defines an atmosphere that allows each child to feel loved and secure with those around them. We are dedicated to a “cherished ideal” – the ideal of a school which encourages children to experience God’s love and to learn to give love in return by way of kindness, patience, sharing, etc.
To be true to the ideal of educating the “whole child” we cannot exclude the importance of moral and spiritual development. Values and beliefs form a central element of a child’s personality. A child’s social behavior, sense of identity, self-confidence and sense of community grow out of values and beliefs. Morality and an understanding of God must be approached with great sensitivity and resolve.
We deeply respect the individual child and support the efforts of parents to guide in moral and spiritual development. The primary responsibility for the nurturing of the young child, especially in this vital dimension of growth, lies with the parents. Christian teachers, who understand and respect children, will know when and how to appropriately relate ideas of faith, hope and love to a child’s experience at school, and will respond to questions about moral and spiritual matters according to the individual child’s ability to understand and use the information.
Our Christian character curriculum presents to children some of the things we know about God as scripture describes Him (loving, good, holy), and emphasizes the importance of developing these traits in our own lives. How does this translate into the classroom? We pray together at snack time, we sing songs about God, we read Bible stories, use puppetry and we discuss the ways that we can do things God’s way with our choices and behavior.
